Become a Makaton Tutor
At the heart of The Makaton Charity are our Tutors delivering quality training to the general public, keeping it alive in communities and championing the excellence of its use.
Makaton Tutors should strive for this by doing this training to teach others the superpower that is communication whilst maintaining and sharing our core values.
Entry criteria
To apply for Makaton Tutor Training, you must meet the following minimum criteria:
- Completed workshop Levels 1 to 4 within the last 5 years (to clarify, all must have been within a 5-year window).
- Have a minimum of 6 months experience in using the Core Vocabulary (after completing Level 4 training).
- Have experience of using Makaton in your community with people of different ages and abilities.
- Sufficient funding to complete the course (£285 pre-course consultation fee - required to progress onto the training course and £2,210 - for the contact sessions).*

The course
Tutor training is conducted online over several months, including consultations, training webinars and assessments. As such, applicants should make sure they have:
- Ample time over a 6 month period.*
- A quiet space to train.
- Access to a PC/laptop and internet for webinars.
- A supporting Tutor, usually your Level 4 Tutor, to guide you through the process.**
- A basic grasp of IT is essential as part of the course includes online assessments and submitting coursework.
